Welcome to the National Congress of Italian CanadiansThe National Congress of Italian Canadians is an umbrella organization representing over l.3 million individuals of Italian origin living in Canada. The main objective of the Congress is to act as both a representative of, and advocate for the Italian Canadian community through a variety of activities, including presentations to all levels of government.
The Congress was founded in 1974. It consists of a national executive, headquartered in Ottawa, and seven affiliated regions, each representing a geographical division of Canada. In turn, each region is subdivided into a number of districts, the number of which varies depending upon the concentration of Italian Canadians within each district. ![]() All three levels of the Congress, though functionally autonomous, share common objectives as set out in their constitution. The Toronto District predates the National Congress of Italian Canadians as an umbrella organization by four years. Originally known as F.A.C.I. (Federation of Italian Canadian Clubs and Associations), it became the Toronto District of the Congress and is the largest component of the Ontario Region, representing over 600,000 people of Italian origin. Over the years, the achievements of the Toronto District have been numerous, befitting an organization which represents the largest Italian Canadian community in Canada. |
